Candlelit Dinners: 7 Of The Most Romantic & Affordable London Restaurants for Date Night
Affordability is subjective, but in the past when I googled ‘Romantic Restaurants in London’ a lot of the suggestions were eye-wateringly expensive! None of these are ‘cheap eats’ (except maybe Zedel), but at the same time you won’t need to take out a loan to share a meal with someone special.
Andrew Edmunds (Soho)
A Soho institution, think creaky furniture, candle light, and white table cloths. An oasis of calm in an otherwise over-stimulating area of London. Good value wine list and delicious food! Andrew Edmunds is a both a crowd pleaser and a show stopper. I adore it.
Jolene Newington Green
Best pasta in London! And i’ve tried a lot. Natty wine, great cocktails and beaut sharing plates. You can sit knee to knee on one of the counter seats, or in the main dining room. Dimly lit, intimate and sexy.
Caravel (Islington)
Nestled along the canal, this converted boat is perfect for date night. Close quarters, romantic with the added novelty of being on the water. Good wine and small plates to share along with the most delicious prawn toast.
Rita’s Dining (Soho)
Where excellent British produce meets American dining. This small restaurant in the middle of Soho is great for a post work date night. It is a little cramped, but that adds to the closeness you want on a date.
Brutto (Farringdon)
One of their signature dishes literally has the word ‘cuddles’ in it – so you know you’re onto a winner there when it comes to romance. Low lighting and loud music, so you have to lean in close to whoever you’re with to hear what they have to say.
Brasserie Zedel (Soho)
Probably the most reasonably priced option on this list and also the grandest. What I love about Brasserie Zedel is how easy it is to get a late night walk in after a few cocktails in Soho. Underground you are transported into the 1930s in their grand art deco dining room. Live music, atmospheric and suited waiters add to its charm.
Ken’s (Exmouth Market)
Seasonal food, fine wine in an old converted pharmacy smack bang in the middle of Exmouth Market. Candle light and shabby chic decor make this an excellent date night option.
